LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's basketball fifth year guard Ian Martinez has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Dec. 8. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
 
Martinez helped the Aggies to a 2-0 week, improving to 9-0 on the season for just the third time in program history as they earned a 70-67 win over Wyoming in the team's conference opener last Wednesday, and a 92-62 win over Utah Tech on Saturday. On the week, Martinez averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.5 steals per game. 
 
Against the Cowboys, Martinez went for 23 points, five boards, two blocks and a steal. He followed that performance by totaling 13 points, five assists and a block against the Trailblazers. On the week, Martinez shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from the floor, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the free throw line.

Utah State will return to action this weekend as it hosts South Florida at the Spectrum on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on Mountain West Network, and televised locally on KMYU.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Junior guard Jamisyn Heaton (Lehi, Utah) averaged 8.5 points and led the team with 7.5 rebounds per game in a pair of road losses at Utah (87-34) and at Grand Canyon (76-62) last week. Against Utah, Heaton scored seven points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Heaton scored in double figures against Grand Canyon, finishing with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while adding two assists, one steal and one block.
