Mason Falslev Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State redshirt freshman guard Mason Falslev has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Feb. 11. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With its sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
 
The native of Benson, Utah, led Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West home record last week with a 77-63 loss to Nevada and 80-61 win against Boise State.
 
Against the Wolf Pack, he scored 14 points, while adding five rebounds and one assist, and shot 50.0 percent (5-of-10) from the field, 50.0 percent (2-of-4) from deep and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) at the free throw line.
 
Against the Broncos, he scored a career-best 25 points, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and one steal, while shooting 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the floor and 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from deep.
 
For the week, Falslev averaged 19.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the field, 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from deep and 57.1 percent (4-of-7) at the free throw line.

The Aggies next visit Wyoming on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. The game will be nationally broadcast on FS1.
 
Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included: 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Junior guard Macy Smith (Minneapolis, Minnesota) posted a pair of double-figure scoring games last week as Utah State lost at Wyoming (62-47) and lost at home to Air Force (78-72). Against the Cowgirls, she scored 10 points, while adding three rebounds and one steal. And against the Falcons, she scored a season-high 16 points, to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. For the week, Smith averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals, while shooting 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the floor, 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from 3-point range and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the charity stripe. 
 
GYMNASTICS – Senior Brianna Brooks (Las Vegas, Nevada) scored a season-high 39.150 in the all-round to place fifth at the Oklahoma-hosted Quad Meet last weekend. Brooks placed sixth on beam with a 9.825, tied for eighth on bars with a 9.825, tied for 12th on beam with a 9.800, and placed 23rd on floor with a 9.700. USU finished third in the meet with a team score of 195.000. 
 
MEN'S TENNIS – Sophomore Nuno Pinheiro (Sintra, Portugal) posted a combined 2-0 record last week in Utah State's 4-3 home loss to Denver. Pinheiro posted a straight-sets win at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-4) and teamed with senior Stijn Paardekooper for a 6-4 win at the first doubles position.
 
SOFTBALL – Sophomore infielder Alex Bunton (San Mateo, California) helped Utah State to a 2-2 record at the UC Riverside Classic last weekend as the Aggies lost to No. 9 Oklahoma State (10-1), defeated Portland State (6-2), lost to PSU (3-2) and defeated UC Riverside (5-2). Bunton began the tournament by going 1-for-2 against OSU and 1-for-1 against PSU. She then went 2-for-4 with a run scored in USU's second game against PSU and concluded the tournament by going 1-for-3 with a home run against UCR. For the week, she hit .500 (5-of-10) with a .800 slugging percentage and a 1.345 OPS. She also totaled two putouts and a team-high 15 assists over the weekend.
 
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD –Sophomore Logan Hammer (Nampa, Idaho) won the men's pole vault, clearing 5.42 meters (17-9.25), at the Arkansas-hosted Tyson Invitational last weekend. Hammer's personal record improves his mark as third-best all-time in USU history. The performance leads the Mountain West and is tied for 21st-best in the nation this season.
 
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Junior Mimi Miyazawa (Orem, Utah) entered the school record book twice as she placed 30th in the women's mile with a time of 4:48.65 and 45th in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 9:32.60 at the Washington-hosted Husky Classic. Miyazawa's 3,0000 meters time ranks as the fourth best in USU history and 10th in the Mountain West this season, while her mile time is the sixth best in USU history and 13th-best in the Mountain West this year.
