GAME NOTES – Top-Seeded Utah State Men’s Basketball Set for Mountain West Championships

OPENING TIPS
• Utah State won its first outright Mountain West regular season title in its 11 years in the league. USU has
now won or shared 18 conference championship all-time (1918, 1926, 1930, 1935, 1936, 1980, 1995, 1997,
1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2019, 2024).
 
• Utah State men's basketball is ranked No. 18 in this week's Associated Press and Coaches Polls. This is the eighth week the Aggies have been ranked in both polls. USU was previously ranked No. 22 (March 4), No. 22 (Feb. 26), No. 22 (Feb. 5) No. 17 (Jan. 29), No. 18 (Jan. 22), No. 16 (Jan. 15), and No. 20 (Jan. 8) in the AP Poll, while it was No. 22 (March 4), No. 23 (Feb. 26), No. 21 (Feb. 5), No. 17 (Jan. 29), No. 20 (Jan. 22), No. 17 (Jan. 15) and No. 23 (Jan. 8) in the Coaches Poll. Overall, USU is 75-23 (.765) as an AP ranked team, including 11-2 this year.
 
• No. 18 Utah State men's basketball was well represented in the league's postseason awards as voted by the league's head coaches. Head coach Danny Sprinkle was named the Steve Fisher Coach of the Year, while junior wing Great Osobor was named both the Player and Newcomer of the Year and junior guard Josh Uduje the Co-Sixth Man of the Year.
 
Osobor and graduate guard Darius Brown II each earned first team all-MW accolades, while senior guard Ian Martinez was an honorable mention selection. Brown was also named to the defensive team.
 
• Utah State's 12 wins away from home this year (eight road, four neutral) are the most in the Mountain West and are tied for fourth in the nation.
 
• Utah State ranks in the top 50 in the nation in several categories, including defensive 3-point field goal percentage (.282, 3rd), field goal percentage (.498, 6th), assists per game (16.55, 22nd), scoring margin (+10.26, 30th), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.46, 38th) and scoring offense (79.87, 46th).
 
• Utah State is one of just four current members of the Mountain West that have won multiple tournament titles. San Diego State has won seven MW Tournament titles, New Mexico has won four, UNLV has won three and USU has won two.
 
• This will be the first time that Utah State is the one seed in the Mountain West Tournament and the 10th time it has been the one seed in postseason play. Overall, Utah State is 16-6 as the one seed in conference tournament action. 
 
• Utah State is looking for its 11th tournament championship as it won six postseason titles in 27 years as a member of the Big West Conference (1988, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005), two postseason titles in eight years as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (2009, 2011), and two postseason titles in 11 years as a member of the Mountain West (2019, 2020). USU has played in the MW Tournament Championship game in four of the last five years. 
 
• Utah State is 23-1 this season when scoring at least 70 points. 
 
• Utah State is one of just three teams in the nation returning zero points to its 2023-24 roster, joining New Mexico State and Northwestern State. The Aggies also have the second-fewest returning rebounds (0.004 percent) and are tied for the second-fewest returning assists (0.003 percent), both behind NMSU.
