LOGAN, Utah — Utah State soccer freshman defender Capriel Winder was selected by the United States U-20 Women's National Team to participate in the team's upcoming training camp, in preparation for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
The camp will be held from October 22-30 at the University of Kansas Health System Training Center, home of the 2025 NWSL Shield winners Kansas City Current. The latter part of that camp — from Oct. 27-29 — will be held concurrently with the senior USWNT's visit to Kansas City for its match against New Zealand on Oct. 29 at CPKC Stadium. The U.S. U-20 WNT will attend that match.
Winder, a native of North Logan, Utah, is having a stellar freshman campaign for Utah State. She has started all 16 matches for one of the Mountain West's top defensive units, ranking second on the team in minutes played with 1,404 of a possible 1,440. The Aggie defense is limiting opponents to 0.81 goals per game, on pace for fifth-best in program history, while posting seven shutouts. USU opponents are averaging just 2.8 shots on goal per contest this season.
This camp will be the first for new U.S. U-20 WNT head coach Vicky Jepson, who comes to U.S. Soccer after a long stint at Tottenham Hotspur where she served as first team senior assistant head coach and for a period, as interim head coach.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will take place next year in Poland from Sept. 5-27. The USA is one of 12 nations to already qualify for the tournament, doing so at the 2025 Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship last June. The tournament will feature 24 countries.
