LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head football coach Bronco Mendenhall announced Wednesday the hiring of Tim Harris and Gabriel Iniguez Jr. (E-knee-gez) as defensive analysts. Harris will work with the cornerbacks and Iniguez will work with the defensive line.

Harris comes to Utah State after serving the past two seasons as a defensive assistant coach at Varina High School in Henrico, Virginia.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work for coach Mendenhall," said Harris. "The way he builds and leads a program has had a profound impact on me, helping me grow both as a player and as a man. As I transition into collegiate coaching, I'm excited to help young men achieve their goals through hard work, accountability, and a shared commitment to excellence. My goal is to help them maximize their potential, contribute to our team's success, and continue building a strong, unified culture together."

A former collegiate defensive back at Virginia, Harris played under Mendenhall for three seasons from 2016-18. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (198th overall pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.

Harris graduated from Virginia in 2017 with his bachelor's degree in anthropology.

"Tim embodies the qualities we value most in our program and I've seen firsthand his growth as a leader, teacher and mentor," said Mendenhall. "Tim has experienced the game at the highest levels, but what stands out most is his ability to connect with people and invest in their development. His energy, perspective and commitment to helping young men reach their potential make him an excellent fit for our staff and culture."

Iniguez joins the Utah State coaching staff after spending the past two seasons as a standout defensive lineman for the Aggies, earning honorable mention All-Mountain West honors both years. He started all 12 games in 2024 and recorded 29 tackles, then started all 13 games in 2025 and finished with 37 tackles. During his collegiate career at Hawai'i (2020-21), New Mexico State (2023) and Utah State (2024-25), Iniguez played in 40 games with 29 starts. He totaled 90 tackles, including 18 solo stops, while adding 3.5 sacks, 8.0 tackles for loss and one pass breakup.

"I'm very grateful to continue being a part of this program," said Iniguez. "My love for this game has taken me to many places and provided incredible opportunities along the way. As I begin my coaching career, I'm excited to contribute to this program in a new role and help our student-athletes grow both on and off the field."

Iniguez graduated from Utah State in the spring of 2025 with his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies.

"Gabe has earned this opportunity through his work ethic, toughness and leadership," said Mendenhall. "He understands our program, our standards and what it takes to compete at a high level because he's lived it as a player. His experience, combined with the respect he has earned from his teammates and coaches, will make him a valuable addition to our defensive staff."
