Nov. 15, 2015 LOGAN, Utah - Following its 35-28 loss at Air Force last Saturday afternoon, Utah State's defense currently ranks among the top 40 in the nation in nine categories, including ranking second in the Mountain West and 14th nationally in passing defense (182.6 yards per game).
Overall, the Aggies rank among the top 40 nationally in 11 categories.
Offensively, Utah State ranks tied for third in the conference and tied for 23rd nationally in sacks allowed (1.3 pg), fourth in the MW and 87th in the nation in passing (208.3 ypg), fifth in the MW and 51st nationally in passing efficiency (135.2), fifth in the MW and 66th nationally in completion percentage (.588), sixth in the MW and 61st nationally in scoring (29.7 ppg), eighth in the MW and 90th in the nation in total offense (369.2 ypg), and 10th in the MW and 80th nationally in rushing (160.9 ypg).
On special teams, the Aggies rank third in the league and 51st in the nation in punt returns (9.0 ypr), seventh in the MW and 60th nationally in kickoff returns (21.4 ypr), and 10th in the MW and 72nd in the nation in net punting (37.4 ypk). Utah State has also blocked an extra point and two punts to rank first in the MW and tied for seventh nationally with its two blocked punts.
The Aggies also rank fourth in the MW and 29th nationally in total defense (341.8 ypg), fourth in the MW and tied for 52nd in the nation in scoring defense (24.6 ppg), fourth in the MW and tied for 55th in the nation in sacks (2.2 pg), fourth in the MW and 56th in the nation in rushing defense (159.2 ypg), and sixth in the MW and 48th in the nation in pass efficiency defense (121.0).
Despite not recovering a fumble in each of its last four games, Utah State still leads the MW and ranks eighth in the nation with 10 forced fumbles, while ranking 28th nationally with its 19 turnovers forced.
The Aggies also rank fourth in the MW and 27th nationally in opponent's third down conversions (.331), fourth in the MW and 31st nationally in first downs allowed (18.2 pg), fifth in the MW and 45th nationally in turnover margin (+0.30), fifth in the MW and 50th nationally in tackles for loss (6.5 pg), and seventh in the MW and 59th nationally with its nine passes intercepted. Utah State has also scored two defensive touchdowns this year to rank fourth in the MW and 30th in the nation, and has scored 10 defensive touchdowns in its last 32 games. And, the Aggies rank seventh in the nation in forcing three-and-outs with 5.44 per game.
Individually, senior LB Kyler Fackrell has recovered four fumbles this season to lead the nation. He also ranks third in the conference and is tied for 36th nationally in tackles for loss (1.3 pg), and tied for 27th in the MW in tackles (6.3 pg). Junior LB Nick Vigil ranks first in the MW and third nationally in tackles (11.8 pg), and tied for 10th in the MW with one fumble recovered.
Junior RB Devante Mays ranks second in the Mountain West and 35th nationally with his 5.8 yards per carry average, and sixth in the MW and 70th nationally with seven rushing touchdowns.
Junior WR Andrew Rodriguez ranks tied first in the league and tied for seventh nationally with his one punt return for touchdown, and second in the MW and tied for 24th nationally in punt returns (10.0 pg).
Senior WR Hunter Sharp ranks second in the MW and 27th in the nation in receiving touchdowns with seven, third in the MW and 38th in the nation in receptions (5.8 pg), third in the MW and 44th nationally in receiving (74.4 ypg), and 10th in the MW in all-purpose yards (90.0 ypg).
Sophomore QB Kent Myers ranks fourth in the MW and 52nd nationally in passing touchdowns with 14.
Senior NG David Moala ranks second in the MW and tied for 41st in the nation in fumbles forced with two, while senior DE Jordan Nielsen ranks tied for fourth in the MW and tied for 17th in the nation with two fumble recoveries. Junior FS Devin Centers ranks tied for sixth in the MW and tied for 60th nationally in interceptions with three.
Sophomore CB Jalen Davis ranks tied for fourth in the MW in passes defended (1.00 pg), while redshirt freshman FS Jontrell Rocquemore ranks tied first in the MW and tied for seventh nationally with his one punt return for touchdown, and tied for 10th in the MW with his one fumble recovery.
Senior WR Devonte Robinson ranks fifth in the MW and 61st in the nation in yards per reception (16.3 ypr), senior CB Tyler Floyd ranks tied for 10th in the MW with his one fumble recovery and senior LB LT Filiaga ranks tied for 35th in the MW in tackles (5.8 pg).
Junior PK Brock Warren ranks sixth in the MW and 95th in the nation in field goals made with eight, tied for eighth in the MW in extra point percentage (.946), and ninth in the MW in scoring (5.9 ppg). And, redshirt freshman P Aaron Dalton ranks eighth in the MW and 58th nationally in punting (41.6 ypk).
The Aggies return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21, when they host Nevada on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium. The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
The football game is part of a tripleheader day of action for Utah State. The women's basketball team will host Pacific at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum at 6:30 p.m., while volleyball will cap the day's events with a match against Air Force at The Wayne Estes Center at 8:30 p.m.
