Utah State Now Ranks 13th Nationally in Passing Defense

LOGAN, Utah - Following its regular-season finale against BYU last Saturday afternoon, Utah State's defense currently ranks among the top 40 in the nation in seven categories, including ranking second in the Mountain West and 13th nationally in passing defense (180.4 yards per game).

Overall, the Aggies rank among the top 40 nationally in 11 different categories.

Utah State also ranks third in the MW and 23rd nationally in total defense (336.7 ypg), fourth in the MW and 51st in the nation in rushing defense (156.2 ypg), tied for fourth in the MW and tied for 63rd in the nation in scoring defense (27.0 ppg), sixth in the MW and tied for 56th in the nation in sacks (2.2 pg), and seventh in the MW and 56th in the nation in pass efficiency defense (123.4).

The Aggies rank first in the MW and seventh in the nation with 12 fumble recoveries, while ranking fourth in the MW and 43rd nationally with 21 turnovers forced.

Utah State also ranks third in the MW and 28th nationally in opponent's third down conversions (.341), fourth in the MW and 26th nationally in first downs allowed (17.7 pg), sixth in the MW and 67th nationally in turnover margin (+0.00), seventh in the MW and 54th nationally in tackles for loss (6.4 pg), and seventh in the MW and 77th nationally with its nine passes intercepted. The Aggies also rank tied for ninth in the nation in forcing three-and-outs with 5.10 per game.

Utah State has scored three defensive touchdowns this year to rank first in the Mountain West and 20th in the nation. Over its last 33 games, the Aggies have scored 11 defensive touchdowns.

Offensively, Utah State ranks fourth in the conference and tied for 26th nationally in sacks allowed (1.3 pg), fifth in the MW and 60th nationally in scoring (29.7 ppg), fifth in the MW and 90th in the nation in passing (202.9 ypg), sixth in the MW and 85th nationally in completion percentage (.561), seventh in the MW and 77th nationally in passing efficiency (124.8), ninth in the MW and 93rd in the nation in total offense (370.8 ypg), and 10th in the MW and 71st nationally in rushing (167.9 ypg).

On special teams, Utah State ranks second in the league and 13th nationally in kickoff returns (25.5 ypr), sixth in the MW and 52nd in the nation in punt returns (9.7 ypr), and sixth in the MW and 64th in the nation in net punting (37.3 ypk). The Aggies have also blocked two extra points and two punts to rank first in the MW and tied for fifth nationally with four blocked kicks.

Senior LB Kyler Fackrell has recovered five fumbles this season, which is tied for the Mountain West single-season record. to lead the nation. He also ranks seventh in the MW in tackles for loss (1.12 pg) and 27th in the MW in tackles (6.3 pg).

Junior LB Nick Vigil ranks first in the Mountain West and tied for fifth nationally in tackles (11.7 pg), and tied for third in the MW and tied for 23rd nationally with two fumble recoveries. Furthermore, Vigil's 140 tackles on the year rank tied for the ninth-most in a single season in school history.

Senior WR Hunter Sharp ranks tied for second in the Mountain West and tied for 29th nationally with his 6.0 receptions per game. He also ranks first in the MW and 27th nationally with his eight receiving touchdowns, tied for second in the MW and tied for 10th nationally with his one kickoff return for touchdown, fourth in the MW and 46th nationally in receiving yards (74.6 ypg), seventh in the MW and 80th in the nation in all-purpose yards (106.2 ypg), and 10th in the MW in scoring (5.4 ppg). Furthermore, his eight receiving touchdowns this year are tied for the 10th most in a single-season in school history.

Junior WR Andrew Rodriguez ranks tied for second in the Mountain West and tied for 12th nationally with his one punt return for touchdown, and second in the MW and 33rd nationally in punt returns (9.7 ypr).

Senior NG David Moala ranks tied for first in the MW and tied for sixth nationally with his two blocked kicks, and tied for third in the MW in fumbles forced with two.

Senior DE Jordan Nielsen ranks tied for third in the MW and tied for 23rd in the nation with two fumble recoveries.

Sophomore QB Kent Myers ranks fifth in the MW and 71st nationally in passing touchdowns with 14, while junior RB Devante Mays ranks fifth in the MW and 65th nationally with his nine rushing touchdowns, and ninth in the MW and 54th in the nation in rushing yards per carry (5.50 ypc).

Junior FS Devin Centers ranks ninth in the MW and 62nd nationally in interceptions with three. Redshirt freshman FS Jontrell Rocquemore ranks tied for second in the MW and tied for 12th nationally with his one punt return for touchdown.

Senior LB LT Filiaga ranks 32nd in the MW in tackles (5.8 pg), while senior SS Marwin Evans ranks 36th in the MW in tackles (5.7 pg).

Junior PK Brock Warren ranks tied for seventh in the MW in field goals made with eight and ninth in the MW in extra point percentage (.947), and redshirt freshman P Aaron Dalton ranks eighth in the MW and 66th nationally in punting (41.0 ypk).

After concluding the regular season with a 6-6 overall record and 5-3 mark in the Mountain West, Utah State will now wait to hear where it will be playing in its school-record fifth consecutive bowl game.
