LOGAN, Utah — Utah State's men's and women's track & field teams earned a total of 15 spots on the Mountain West All-Conference team, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Athletes earned spots on the all-conference team by placing third or higher in last weekend's MW Indoor Championships held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Utah State earned all-conference honors in both the men's and women's distance medley relays. On the women's side, the quartet of junior
Hannah Davidson,
Olivia Smith and
Mattie Geddes plus senior
Abby Jensen recorded the second-fastest DMR time in school history at 11:33.21. The USU foursome trailed first-place New Mexico in the event by less than two seconds. For the men, it was seniors
Devin Pancake,
Zack Bell and
Christopher Kauffman plus junior
Brennan Benson who placed third with a time of 9:44.03. The time ranks third all-time in the DMR at USU.
Benson, Kauffman and Bell also earned second all-conference selections. Benson took third place in the mile with a time of 4:06.51 while Kauffman rallied on the home stretch to place third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.87, earning the podium finish by a mere four-thousandths of a second. Bell earned his second all-conference honor in another relay event, placing third in the 4x400-meter relay alongside seniors
Skyler Andam and
Zach Meyer, and freshman
Carter Guiness. The foursome recorded a time of 3:15.16 to reach the podium.
Junior
Kelton Chenworth earned USU's final all-conference selection with its highest finish at the MW Indoor Championships. Chenworth cleared a height of 2.12 meters (6-11.50) to finish second in the high jump. Chenworth's mark is tied for ninth all-time in the high jump at USU.
Next up, the Aggies will kick off their outdoor track & field schedule at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Arizona, on Friday through Saturday, March 24-25. USU will also be competing the same weekend at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, March 25, in Orem, Utah.
