LOGAN, Utah — Senior Valerie Clark broke the Utah State record in the women's javelin as the Aggie track & field team claimed 12 titles and 36 podium finishes while posting seven additional performances that rank in the top-10 in school history as they hosted the Aggie Invitational at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

Clark's historic effort came on Friday afternoon when she launched three-straight personal-best throws to open the competition, culminating with her record mark of 53.60 meters (175-10). The Mona, Utah, native broke Mia Estes's 2018 record of 51.38 meters (168-7) on her second throw before topping it again on her third. Clark beat her previous personal-best of 49.07 meters (161-0), which she set in her silver-medal performance at the 2023 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships and matched last week at the Beach Invitational, by over 14 feet. With her throw, Clark currently ranks second in the MW and 19th in the nation in the javelin.

Sophomore Mary Bryan accompanied her teammate's record-setting performance by setting a personal best with her throw of 46.10 meters (151-3) to finish third in the field. Bryan moved from 10th to sixth in Utah State history in the event, beating her previous personal best by almost two feet. The Millard HS product presently ranks sixth in the conference and 13th in the region.

Junior Walker Deede broke his own personal record by almost 13 feet as he posted a throw of 74.90 meters (245-9) in a dominating victory in the men's javelin. On his second attempt, Deede set a personal best for the third time in four meets and moved into second place in both Utah State and MW history in the event, ranking only behind two-time USU All-American Sindri Gudmundsson. The two-time MW silver medalist leads the conference by over 22 feet and ranks as the 10th-best javelin thrower in the country. Junior Kace Jones rounded out the banner day for the javelin squad with his second-place throw of 62.60 meters (205-4)

On Saturday, sophomore Mathew Hall ran a blistering 46.19 in his second-career 400-meter race to beat the Aggie Invitational field and move into third in USU history in the event, 0.09 seconds behind two-time All-American Cole Lambourne. Hall topped his previous personal best by 1.68 seconds as he moved into second place in the MW and 29th in the NCAA West Region.

Junior Claire Petersen and freshman Gracynn Smith went one-two in the women's 400-meter hurdles, finishing with respective times of 59.25 and 59.42. Petersen shaved 0.41 seconds off her personal best as she moved from 10th to sixth in Aggie history, while Smith dropped 1.37 seconds off her record to claim the eighth spot on the USU top-10 list.

Sophomore Sabrina Fairbanks and freshman Karina Cooper each cleared 4.03 meters (13-2.5) to finish first and second, respectively, in the women's pole vault. Fairbanks set a personal best in her winning effort, moving from fifth to fourth in USU history. Cooper and Fairbanks currently rank fifth and sixth in the MW.

Senior Milly Garren made the most of her final Aggie Invitational, uncorking a throw of 50.78 meters (166-7) in the discus en route to a runner-up finish in the women's field. Garren's second attempt, which improved on her personal best by over five feet, lofted her into ninth place in Aggie history in the event, seven inches behind her older sister Maia Garren. The younger Garren sister also took second place in the shot put, posting a mark of 14.30 meters (46-11).

Sophomore Ayodele Ojo, Jr. and freshman David Konan took first and second, respectively, in both the men's 100 meters and 200 meters. The duo hold the top-two places in the MW's 100-meter rankings.
