Utah State Head Coach Matt Wells:
Opening Statement: "That is a good win. It's a really good win and I'm so happy for the coaches and players in there. My hat is off to those players. We had a lot of guys step up and make a lot of plays. It was led by the defense in
Zach Vigil and
B.J. Larsen and the other senior leaders,
Brian Suite,
Frankie Sutera. My hat goes off to those leaders on defense for the way they played. That was a weird game to start off with, with that pick-6 right out of the gate, but our guys didn't bat an eye. I'm proud of those kids for hanging in there. It's a tough, hard-fought win. It may be very unorthodox how you do it, but we're going to stick together as a team, play as a team and win together as a team. We've said around here a long time and I'll say it again tonight, `Players make plays.' The guys that were players tonight made plays all over the field."
On the quarterback situation:
"I don't know about Chuckie yet, we'll know a little bit more tomorrow. It's the same knee that's banged up. For precautionary reasons, the doctors said he was done for the night, so here comes Darell. He kind of started off a little rusty and slow and did some things that are very unDarell-like, but it's been a minute since he's played. I'll put the first pick on me, it probably shouldn't have been called. I thought he did a good job of managing the game at the end. He was smart with the ball. That kid has a lot of moxie. Our players will rally around him if he's the guy going forward. This is a team. It's not one coach, it's not one player, these guys play together. That's what this culture has been built on and that's not going to change."
Senior Linebacker Zach Vigil:
"I think the defense stepped up and played really well for us tonight. We came out a little sluggish at the beginning of the second half, but we were able to bounce back from that and perform really well. Coach put me in the right position at the right time to make a play and it all came together. It set the game back to 0-0 and set the tone for the defense on how we were going to play tonight to come out with a victory."
Freshman Wide Receiver Hunter Sharp:
"The last couple of weeks we were struggling as an offense, but we prepared this week and I felt like we came out and had a good game tonight. We didn't really do anything after that pick-6, we just relaxed. We settled down and played Aggie Football. Coach talked to Chuckie and we got going. This game did a lot for my confidence. I'm confident in my ability now, but won't let it get the best of me. I just want to do whatever I can to help my team win as many games as possible."
Senior Defensive End B.J. Larsen:
"Tonight I'm really proud of our defense. We were able to come out from the get-go. We were put in some tough situations and we were able to make some plays on the ball and get some points on the board ourselves. We started getting in the quarterback's head and were able to cause some havoc in the backfield. This is what the Aggie defense is all about, to be able to be put in tough situations and be able to answer the call."
Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson:
"We showed heart, we showed toughness. We just let it get too far way in the first half, and all those turnovers cost us, we gave them some cheap ones. We're not explosive enough as an offense to come back from that big of a deficit. We just have no running game right now, we're just so pass oriented, and then we start getting our quarterback killed. Somehow, and some way we've got to figure out how to run the football."
