Z. Vigil Career Highlights 
Utah State All-American linebacker Zach Vigil has signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins it was announced Saturday.
Vigil will join former Aggie All-American cornerback Will Davis on the Dolphins roster as Davis was drafted by Miami in the third round (93rd pick) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Vigil will join 14 other former Aggies who are currently on NFL rosters. Safety Maurice Alexander is with the St. Louis Rams, cornerback Jarrett Bush is with the Green Bay Packers, cornerback Will Davis is with the Miami Dolphins, linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu is with the Oakland Raiders, cornerback Tay Glover-Wright is with the Green Bay Packers, wide receiver Chuck Jacobs is with the San Francisco 49ers, offensive center Tyler Larsen is with the Washington Redskins, cornerback Nevin Lawson is with the Detroit Lions, cornerback Curtis Marsh is with the Denver Broncos, offensive tackle Donald Penn is with the Oakland Raiders, long snapper Patrick Scales is with the Baltimore Ravens, running back Robert Turbin and linebacker Bobby Wagner are both with the Seattle Seahawks, and running back Kerwynn Williams is with the Arizona Cardinals.
Vigil, a 6-2, 240-pound linebacker from Clearfield, Utah (Clearfield HS) was named a second-team All-American by USA Today Sports, a third-team All-American by Phil Steele, a fourth-team All-American by Athlon Sports and an honorable mention All-American by SI.com following his senior season, along with being named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
During the 2014 season, Vigil led Utah State in tackles (156), tackles for loss (20.5), sacks (9.0) and QB hurries (6) to go along with four pass breakups, one forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown, and one interception that he returned 35 yards for a touchdown. His 20.5 tackles for loss ties the Mountain West single-season record, while his 156 total tackles (79-solo, 77-assist) ranked second in the nation, are the third-most in Mountain West history and the fourth-most in school history.
Vigil finished the 2014 season ranking second in the Mountain West and seventh in the nation in tackles per game (11.1), second in the conference and 13th in the nation in tackles for loss per game (1.46), and tied for third in the conference and tied for 39th in the nation in sacks per game (0.64).
Vigil's best game of the year was in a 34-16 Mountain West home win against Air Force as he recorded a career-high 22 tackles, which included a career-best 4.0 tackles for loss, as he was named the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Week. Those 22 tackles were tied for the most at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level during the year, as well as being tied for the fourth-most in school history and tied for the sixth-most in Mountain West history. Overall, Vigil had nine double-digit tackle outings during his senior season and 20 in his career.
Vigil concluded his Utah State career with 43.5 tackles for loss breaking Jermaine Younger's school record of 43.0 tackles for loss set from 1990-93. Vigil also ends his Aggie career with 389 total tackles to rank fifth all-time in school history.
Vigil concluded his collegiate career as part of the winningest senior class in Utah State history with 37 victories, as well as a member of the group of Aggies who have participated in four-straight bowl games and won three-straight bowl games, both of which are school records.
Utah State (10-4, 6-2 MW) concluded its 2014 season with a 21-6 win against UTEP in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl as it won six of its final seven games. Overall, it was USU's third-straight bowl win in its fourth-straight bowl game, both of which are school records. USU's 10 wins are also the second-most in school history behind the 2012 team that finished 11-2.
Utah State ended the year ranking 32nd nationally in the final Associated Press poll with 11 votes, and is one of just four FBS programs over the past three seasons to win at least 30 games and three-straight bowl games.
