UTAH STATE FOOTBALL
Postgame Quotes
vs. Boise State
Oct. 28, 2017

UTAH STATE HEAD COACH Matt Wells:
"It wasn't a good night for the Aggies. Congratulations to Boise State, they played well and beat us in both phases. We never could get anything going and that falls squarely on me. I didn't have them ready to play and we didn't play well. They're a good team and they came out and dominated from the get go. We couldn't make up any ground."

On the improvement of the offense in the third quarter: "I think we made a couple of halftime adjustments, but we didn't sustain anything. We moved the ball and gained yards, but that's only so good on stats until you put the ball in the end zone. It wasn't a very consistent effort on offense."

On the lack of turnovers in the game:
"It's interesting because you see such a lopsided score and would think there would be a lot of turnovers, but there weren't any. That doesn't lose the ballgame for you. It gives you a chance to win it."

UTAH STATE JUNIOR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN Roman Andrus:
"Obviously it was a tough loss. To sum it up, I think we didn't establish a rushing game early enough, and that falls on the offensive line. We put ourselves in a hole that was tough to get out of. When we had good field position and it really counted, I don't think we executed. We have to improve on that. We have a lot of work to do in getting ready for New Mexico next week. This game opened our eyes to some of the areas we need to work on offensively."

On not giving up a sack:
"That was definitely a focus going into this week. We put a lot of emphasis on that, especially me as a tackle, setting their defensive ends and being prepared for them while playing with great technique and effort. The fact that we didn't give up any sacks is a reflection of that."

On the mental game after falling behind early:
"I honestly think that fired us up. We've been down by 14 three times this season. It wasn't a position we were uncomfortable being in. We came out fired up, but we didn't execute and didn't come back from it. We put ourselves in a hole and its tough to keep making those 14-point comebacks. It just comes down to needing to execute earlier in the game."

UTAH STATE RS FRESHMAN SAFETY Baron Gajkowski:
"Defensively, we didn't play well. We had our goals and our game plan, but unfortunately we didn't execute it. I had career highs and whatever, but that doesn't really mean much. At the end of the day it's either a W or an L, and tonight we were on the side of taking an L. We need to play better as a defensive secondary. It just wasn't our night."

On game planning for players like Cedrick Wilson:
"It's difficult. Wilson is a great player. During the week we did our best to game plan to be able to shut him down. I give him credit, but I would still ride with our guys. Jalen Davis is a great player as well. We felt like we had our match-ups, but unfortunately it didn't go our way tonight. Whenever you have a great athlete on the other side of the ball, to be able to cover and take care of, it's a task. But we're a unit that takes care of tasks."

On the difficulty of having strong offensive and defensive series at the same time:
"I thought the offense played great. Being a defensive player, I don't know much about what goes on on the other side of the ball. We can't give them that many yards or that many points. Having that defensive mindset, we could win the game 2-0. We didn't do our job tonight."

BOISE STATE HEAD COACH BRYAN HARSIN:
"We practiced well, number one. Those guys came into the game, and did what we practiced. The plan was really good. We thought we could throw it, we felt like we needed to to balance our run game. But we wanted to run the ball, that was something that wasn't going to change. We were able to throw early in the game, kind of got Brett (Rypien) into a rhythm, and that's the key. When you're playing quarterback, you have to get into a rhythm a little bit, you make a few completions and you're seeing the defense, what they're trying to do, and he did that. They did a good job against the run. We came out there and we finally got it going a little bit more, we had some big plays. But, early on it was going to be tough. We knew they would come in there, and especially with their safety (Dallin Leavitt) being in there, he's tough to run on. So, we were able to throw it a little bit, and that's what kind of balanced us out and helped us on offense."
