LONG BEACH, Calif. — Junior Logan Hammer broke his own school record in the men's pole vault for the second time in three days as Utah State track & field claimed three titles, six podium finishes and five top-10 performances in school history at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, on Friday and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California, on Friday and Saturday.

"It was certainly a long four days at three different meets, but we had a very successful trip to California," said Artie Gulden, USU's director of track & field and cross country. "We had three school records, many top 10 marks and another handful of NCAA West prelim qualifiers. We will look forward to carrying this momentum into our home meet next week, and we hope that there will be a bunch of family, friends and community members that come out to support us."

Hammer's record-breaking jump of 5.70 meters (18-8.25) came during the top flight of Saturday's men's pole vault competition at the Beach Invitational. Having already bested Akron's Hunter Garretson, the only other American collegian to clear 5.70 meters in 2025, Hammer successfully vaulted that height on his first attempt. The Nampa, Idaho, product topped the mark of 5.68 meters (18-7.5) that he cleared on Thursday at the same facility in the Pacific Coast Invitational. Additionally, he reset the Mountain West record, the top mark of the 2025 NCAA outdoor season and his seventh-best mark among American pole vaulters this calendar year.

Junior Javin Richards placed third in the competition behind the reigning All-Americans Hammer and Garretson, clearing a height of 5.29 meters (17-4.25) that lies one centimeter shy of his personal best that ranks fourth in Aggie history.

In the women's 4x400-meter relay, senior Adi Nielson, senior Emma Reeves, junior Alison Richter and freshman Mashaylee Jones ran a blistering 3:39.56 to run away with the title in Long Beach. The team moved from sixth to second on the all-time list at USU, lying 0.63 seconds shy of the 29-year-old record set by Becky Sorensen, Jane Marshall, Shelley Grupe, and LaDonna Antoine-Watkins in 1996.

Freshman Diego Aguirre-Stewart finished fourth in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.93. His time, which now ranks sixth in Utah State history, equals his indoor personal best which he set in his silver-medal performance at the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

The women's 4x100-meter relay squad of freshman Brenly Douglas, Jones, sophomore Breanna Raven and Reeves clocked in at 45.99 to finish fifth at the Beach Invitational. The quartet moved from 10th to fourth in USU history with their run, becoming the first relay team to break the 46-second mark since 2009.

Raven continued her run of success in the women's long jump, where she leaped 5.90 meters (19-4.25) to move from ninth to sixth in school history. This marks the third meet of 2025, along with the Mountain States Games in February and the Utah Tech Invitational in March, where the Springfield, Oregon, product set multiple Utah State top-10 marks in a single day.

Sophomore Landon Bott claimed his second podium finish in three days in the 800 meters, this time finishing first at the Beach Invitational with a time of 1:48.63.

On Friday at the Beach Invitational, sophomore Walker Deede placed second in the men's javelin with a mark of 67.96 meters (222-11). Including his silver-medal performance at the 2024 MW Outdoor Championships, Deede has thrown at least 66 meters in each of his last five competitions.

In her second meet in as many days, sophomore Elle Jacobson jumped 5.53 meters (18-1.75) to claim third place in the open section of the women's long jump.

Utah State will return home next weekend to host the Aggie Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 25-26, at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. Admission is free to the public on both days.
