CLOVIS, Calif. — Utah State track & field earned 35.5 team points and posted four performances, including school records from sophomore
Shelby Jensen and graduate
Hannah Davidson, that rank in the top-10 in school history on the second day of the 2025 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California, on Friday.
Jensen finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:48.44, which broke All-American Cierra Simmons-Mecham's Utah State record of 9:49.33 from 2018. Jensen, who finished second in the race, also moved into ninth in the nation in the event with her performance. The Saratoga Springs, Utah, native improved on her previous best, which ranked second in school history, by 5.58 seconds. The race was won by New Mexico's Pamela Kosgei, who finished in 9:31.96 to break the MW championship record by 12.14 seconds.
Davidson's historic run came in the second heat of the 1,500-meter prelims, where her time of 4:23.72 earned her an automatic berth to Saturday's final. Sticking close to Boise State's Kaiya Robertson and New Mexico's Hanna Bruckmayer at the front of the pack, the Sandpoint, Idaho, native topped the previous Utah State record of 4:23.99, which was set by Tylee Skinner in 2018. Davidson bested her previous personal-best in the event by 3.51 seconds.
Freshman
Taite Priestley claimed the second conference medal of his Utah State career, tying for third place in the high jump with a clearance of 2.09 meters (6-10.25). The Preston, Idaho, native also won a bronze medal in the high jump at the Mountain West Indoor Championships in February. The competition was won by Colorado State's Rhys Travis with a height of 2.12 meters (6-11.5).
Graduate
Caden Dupee finished the second day of the decathlon competition strong, moving from sixth place to fourth over the final five events and finishing with 6,979 points. His mark, bolstered by personal-best marks in the shot put, high jump, discus and pole vault, moved him from 10th to seventh in Utah State history in the event. Combined with his fifth-place finish in Thursday's javelin competition, Dupee has earned nine total team points, the most of any Aggie through the first two days of the championships. Boise State's Landon Helms won the decathlon title with 7,673 points.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore
Garrett Woodhouse led the way for the Aggies with a time of 8:50.22, good for fourth place in his first-ever race at a conference championship. New Mexico's Matthew Kosgei won the event in 8:25.56, breaking the meet record by 14.89 seconds.
Junior
Milly Garren uncorked a throw of 15.04 meters (49-4.25) in her third attempt of the shot put competition, a mark that the fifth-best in the field and moved her into ninth in Aggie history. The Logan native, who ranks in the school's top-10 in the indoor shot put and weight throw, earned her first outdoor top-10 mark and her second top-five finish at a Mountain West Championships, having also finished fifth at the 2025 indoor championships. Colorado State's Mya Lesnar claimed her fourth straight conference title with her mark of 18.61 meters (61-0.75).
On the men's side, senior
Nate Franz posted a top throw of 17.64 meters (57-10.5) to claim sixth place in the competition. The Menan, Idaho, native has earned team points for the Aggies 10 times throughout his storied career, with the top performance earning him a silver medal in the shot put at last February's indoor championships. Wyoming's Daniel Reynolds topped the field with a throw of 19.55 meters (64-1.75).
In the heptathlon, junior
Sophie Chandler vaulted from ninth to fifth in the standings over the final three events, finishing with 5,104 points. She posted two top-3 finishes and a personal best time in the 800 meters to move up the rankings. Fresno State's Ella Spaulding won the competition with 5,551 points.
Competing for the last time as an Aggie, senior
Joshua Hartvigsen mustered a leap of 7.26 meters (23-10) to place eighth in the field, earning a team point. He finished in the top eight of the conference championships for the third time in his career, having also finished sixth as part of the 4x100-meter relay team at the 2024 outdoor championships and seventh in the long jump during the 2022 indoor championships. Colorado State's Ismael Dembele won the title with a jump of 7.59 meters (24-11).
In addition to Davidson's record-breaking performance, three other Aggies qualified for the finals of the 1,500 meters. Sophomore
Caroline Moon joined her teammate in the women's final, finishing fourth in the first heat with a time of 4:26.50 and qualifying for Saturday's race on time. Moon's effort briefly moved her into 10th in USU history in the event before being passed minutes later in the all-time rankings by Davidson. On the men's side, freshman
Joshua Armstrong earned an automatic berth by finishing fourth in the opening heat in 3:50.63, while senior teammate
Wyatt Evans qualified on time with his run of 3:47.34 in the second heat.
Two Aggie sprinters qualified for the finals of the men's 100 meters. Freshman
Daniel Chase finished second in the first heat with a time of 10.50, and he was soon joined by freshman
Ayodele Ojo when his time of 10.36 in the second heat stood as the best of the third-place finishers.
Junior
Krysthina Vlahovic finished second in the second heat of the women's 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 13.98 to earn an automatic berth to the final. She was joined by sophomore teammate
Claire Petersen, whose third-place time of 14.28 in the final heat earned her the final qualifying spot in Saturday's final. Vlahovic, who also ranks third among all Canadians in the event in 2025, will be making her fifth career appearance in a Mountain West final, while Petersen will be making her first career appearance in a final.
Freshman
Mashaylee Jones qualified for the finals of the women's 400 meters, running a time of 54.41 that was good for second in the second heat. With her performance, the Plano, Texas, native is now scheduled to compete in up to three races on Championship Saturday, with the 400-meter final coming alongside the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay races.
After the second day, both the Aggie teams sit in fifth place after eight of the 21 events, with the men accumulating 36.5 points and the USU women owning 23 points. Colorado State leads the men's competition with 82.5 points, while Fresno State sits atop the women's standings with 65 points.
Saturday's competition will include the finales of the 5,000 meters and all track events between 100 and 1,500 meters. In the field, the men's slate will include the discus, pole vault and triple jump, while the women's schedule includes the high jump, triple jump and discus.
