VARIOUS, U.S.A. — No record is safe.

Weeks after graduate senior Mica Rivera broke the school record in the 10,000 meters, junior Mattie Geddes became the second Aggie of 2023 to climb atop the all-time ranks at Utah State, breaking the USU record in the outdoor 800 meters with a time of 2:08.52 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. Geddes' time breaks the previous record of 2:08.85, set in 2000 by Melissa Jensen.

The performance was the highlight of a weekend of stellar showings from Utah State track & field, as the team also competed at the Long Beach State-hosted Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invitational, plus the L&C Larry Byerly Invitational in Portland, Oregon, with the Aggies posting three individual titles on the weekend.

Also at the Bryan Clay Invitational, junior Brennan Benson moved to fourth all-time in the men's 1,500 meters, recording a time of 3:43.60. Freshman Megumi Ludlow recorded a time of 35:30.36 in the 10,000 meters, moving to eighth all-time at USU in the event. Junior Sammi Lee led the Aggies in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 10:26.67 and moving to ninth all-time at Utah State.

USU's week began at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, California, on Thursday. Sophomore Valerie Clark captured another javelin title, her third of the season, with a mark of 48.07 meters (157-8). Junior Djamilliah Paepke-Chile finished in third with a mark of 45.33 meters (148-8). Juniors Taylia Norris and Olivia Smith narrowly missed top-five finishes in the 1,500 meters and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Norris finished with a time of 4:52.14 while Smith recorded a time of 1:01.32. Freshman Rylan Anderson posted the best finish on the men's side, placing seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 48.47.

The Aggies remained in Long Beach for the Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Freshman LJ Floyd posted USU's second title of the weekend, winning the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:37.57. Rylan Anderson improved on his time in the 400 meters, placing fifth with a time of 48.26. Olivia Smith also improved upon her time in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing seventh with a time of 1:00.19.

Junior Lydia Robison and sophomore Alyssa McNutt represent Utah State in their fourth and final competition of the weekend at the L&C Larry Byerly Invitational. McNutt also posted USU's third title of the weekend, winning the hammer with a mark of 49.37 meters (161-11). The duo each posted a top-five finish in the discus, with Robison placing third with a mark of 40.69 meters (133-6) and McNutt taking fourth with a throw of 40.51 meters (132-11).

Utah State's outdoor season continues next week at the Robison Invitational hosted by BYU in Provo, Utah. The competition will take place on Wednesday through Saturday, April 19-22.
