SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah State's men's and women's track & field teams competed this weekend at the Utah Spring Classic on Friday and Saturday, continuing its strong run of performances in recent weeks.
USU collected 5 individual titles on the weekend alongside 20 top-three finishes. The Aggies went first and second in the women's javelin as sophomore
Valerie Clark won the event with a mark of 48.56 meters (159-4) and junior
Djamilliah Paepke-Chile placed second with a mark of 48.11 meters (157-10). The duo now rank second and third all-time in the javelin at USU, respectively.
Junior
Mattie Geddes also ventured into USU's all-time list in the women's 800 meters. Geddes placed second in the event with a time of 2:10.32, moving to eighth all-time at USU.
Senior
Hannah Davidson won the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.89. Senior
Tori Bailey placed first in the women's discus with a mark of 50.73 meters (166-5), also finishing third in the hammer with a mark of 54.58 meters (179-1. On the men's side, junior
Brennan Benson won the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.64, while freshman
Spencer Price took first in the triple jump with a mark of 13.92 meters (45-8.00).
Junior
Sidnee Naerebout placed second in the triple jump on the women's side with a mark of 11.55 meters (37-10.25). Junior
Emma Shippen and sophomore
Mikayla Dalton placed second and third, respectively, in the pole vault with marks of 3.65 meters (11-11.75) and 3.50 meters (11-5.75). Senior
Dolly Gabri finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.20 meters (46-7.25). The Aggie women also earned a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay where juniors
Emma Reeves,
Autumn Kidd,
Maddie Edwards and
Olivia Smith recorded a time of 3:53.57.
For the Aggie men, senior
Spencer Nelson placed second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:50.43. Freshman
LJ Floyd also took second in the 5,000 meters, recording a time of 15:08.90. Sophomore
Ben Berlin recorded another second-place finish with a time of 9:52.57 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Utah State had a top-three finisher in all three of the men's shot put, hammer and discus events. Sophomore
Nate Franz finished third in the hammer with a mark of 51.00 meters (167-4). Junior
Gavin Beierle finished second in the shot put and discus with respective throws of 16.49 meters (54-1.25) and 49.53 meters (162-6). Junior
Brandon Ovington also finished third in the discus with a mark of 46.44 meters (152-4).
Utah State track & field returns to action next week at a quartet of California meets. The Aggies are set to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance on Wednesday through Saturday, April 12-15, as well as the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa on Thursday through Saturday, April 13-15. USU will also be represented at both the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Beach Invitational, both in Long Beach, on Thursday through Saturday, April 13-15.
