LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track & field won seven titles, earned 19 podium finishes and posted 12 performances that rank in the top 10 all-time in school history at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Washington, and the Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational in Logan, Utah, this weekend.

Junior Logan Hammer made more Utah State track and field history, setting the George Nelson Fieldhouse record in the men's pole vault and further extending his own school record with his clearance of 5.60 meters (18-4.5). The previous record of 5.50 meters was set in 1998 by former Aggie Lance White, whose school record was broken by Hammer earlier this year. The Nampa, Idaho, native's mark is currently tied for the fourth-highest in the country this indoor season.

Junior Marshall Rasmussen finished in a tie for second place in the event with his mark of 5.10 meters (16-8.75), which also moves him into a tie for eighth all-time.

Utah State's distance runners had several strong performances at the UW Invitational. Their run of success started on Friday with the men's 5,000 meters, where sophomore John Simmons became just the fifth Aggie to break the 14-minute mark in the event with his second-place time of 13:59.35. Sophomore Jedidiah Megargel finished in seventh place with a time of 14:07.29. Simmons moved from ninth to fifth all-time in the event while Megargel moved into ninth.

Three Aggie runners had top-10 performances in the men's 3,000 meters. Junior LJ Floyd ran the second-fastest race in school history with his 11th-place performance of 7:58.52. Junior Logan Garnica followed close behind with a 16th-place finishing time of 8:03.74 that ranks third all-time, and graduate Max Wehrli moved into seventh all-time with his time of 8:06.11, which was good for 22nd in the event.

Junior Sarah Ellis and sophomore Brianne Smith closed out the Aggies' successful Friday with podium finishes in the women's 5,000 meters. Ellis took second place with a time of 16:24.30, which ranks fourth in Utah State history in the event, and Smith finished with a third-place time of 16:46.31.

The Aggies' Saturday performance in Seattle was highlighted by the women's mile run, where senior Mimi Miyazawa finished 32nd with a time of 4:46.86 and sophomore Caroline Moon finished in 4:48.84 to take 35th. Miyazawa moved from sixth to fifth all-time with her performance, while Moon's run vaulted her into seventh all-time.

In Logan, a pair of Aggie sprinters shone in the women's 60-meter final. Freshman Brenly Douglas took fourth place in the event and moved from ninth to eighth in the Utah State record book with her time of 7.69, while sophomore Claire Petersen moved into 10th in school history with her fifth-place finishing time of 7.72.

On the men's side, freshman Ayodele Ojo took the sprint title, running in 6.73 to tie his career-high that ranks sixth in school history.

USU freshmen claimed the top-two spots in the women's 400 meters with Elly Jeppsen winning the race in 57.78 and Mashaylee Jones placing second with a time of 58.41.

Senior Alison Richter took first place in the women's 800 meters in her first time competing in the event in her career, finishing with a time of 2:17.50.

Douglas and Jeppsen added another title to their respective ledgers, teaming up with freshmen Ava Smith and Erin Higgs to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:06.96.

USU's jumpers collected a pair of individual titles on Saturday. Senior Joshua Hartvigsen won the men's long jump competition with a career-best jump of 7.29 meters (23-11) that measured one centimeter short of reaching the school's top-10 list. Freshman Taite Priestley added a strong performance in the men's high jump, winning the event with a height of 2.04 meters (6-8.25).

Utah State's throwers added a trio of runner-up finishes on the day. Junior Milly Garren placed second in the women's shot put with a heave of 14.11 meters (46-3.5), senior Nate Franz finished second with his long throw of 18.12 meters (59-5.5) and sophomore Joseph Turner earned his podium spot with a mark of 16.75 meters (54-11.5).

The Nelson Fieldhouse record in the women's pole vault was also broken on Saturday by BYU's Rebekah Erikson, who cleared 4.32 meters (14-2). The record had previously belonged to former Utah State pole vaulter Sonia Grabowska, who set her mark of 4.20 meters (13-4.5) in 2009.

Next week, Utah State will head north to Pocatello, Idaho, on Friday, February 7, for the Idaho-State-hosted Stacy Dragila Invitational.
