Utah State Track & Field Boasts School Record and Five Titles in Rainy Weekend Meets

PROVO, Utah — Through rainy conditions, Utah State track & field set a school record in the men's pole vault and won five titles at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational and the Stanford-hosted Payton Jordan Invitational this weekend.

By clearing 5.53 meters (18-1.75), sophomore Logan Hammer set the Utah State record in the men's pole vault while taking the title at the Robison Invitational. At the time of publication, Hammer's mark ranks first in the Mountain West and eighth in the nation.

Also at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational, senior Abbey Bryant won the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.56.

The Aggie women won both the invite and open sections of the 800 meters as senior Mattie Geddes took the title in the invite with a time of 2:08.81 and freshman Caroline Moon won the open section with a time of 2:17.61.

The fifth first-place finish came in the men's triple jump as junior Godwin Charles won the event with a mark of 14.77 meters (48-5.5).

In the women's pole vault, freshman Sabrina Fairbanks cleared 3.93 meters (12-10.75) to take third place. With the mark, Fairbanks now ranks fifth all-time in Utah State history.

Senior Olivia Smith climbed up the USU record list by running a 59.20-second 400-meter hurdles to place second. Smith now sits at fifth all-time in Aggie history.

In the multis, sophomore Sophie Chandler took sixth in the women's heptathlon while with 3,973 points, winning the 800 meters and javelin in her group. In the men's decathlon, sophomore Javin Richards took fifth at 5,632 points with a high-water mark of second in the 100 meters.

At the Stanford-hosted Payton Jordan Invitational, freshman Landon Bott posted a time of 1:49.07 in section one of the men's 800 meters to finish fourth. Bott now ranks sixth all-time in school history.

The Aggies will now prepare for the Mountain West Outdoor Championships which will take place Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11, in Clovis, California. Fresno State is serving as the host institution.
