Annette Viola Cottle was a four-time AIAW All-American in volleyball from 1976-79. She also was named to the Region VII all-conference team four straight years. Cottle earned the Broderick Award in 1978 as the most outstanding volleyball player in America after leading Utah State to the national championship—the school’s first-ever team national title. She also helped the Aggies capture second place in the 1979 AIAW Championships. Cottle won a gold medal in the 1979 U.S. Sports Festival and she was a member of the 1979 World University team which finished fifth. She also participated in basketball at Utah State. Cottle served as head volleyball coach at Utah State from 1982-84. She was a six-time United States Volleyball Association All-American (1981, 1989-93) and two-time USVA MVP in the Senior Division (1991 and 1993). Cottle was the recipient of the 1993 Leadership Award from the Utah Network for Girls and Women in Sports.
