L. Jay Silvester earned four letters as a track standout at Utah State from 1956-59. A four-time all-conference selection, Silvester received All-America honors in 1958 and 1959. The Tremonton, Utah native was a member of the U.S, Olympic teams from 1964-76 and won a silver medal in the discus at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. He set four world records in the discus, including a career-best 224 feet, five inches in 1968.
