Jay Don Blake defeated Centenary's Hal Sutton in the playoff in the 1980 NCAA Golf Championships to win the national title. He followed that up with a second-place finish in the 1981 NCAA Championships. Blake, a two-time All-American was named the Collegiate Player of the Year in 1981. The St. George, Utah native won 15-of-29 collegiate tournaments in which he competed, finishing second five times and placing third four times. During one stretch, he won 11 of the 13 events he played in. Blake qualified for the PGA tour in the fall of 1986. His best year came in 1991, with his first PGA Tour win at the Shearson Lehman Brothers Open, five other top-10 finishes and a top-30 money list placing. He also led the tour in putting in 1991.
