A two-year letterman in basketball for coach Dick Romney, Conley Watts earned all-conference and all-state honors as a senior in 1934. Watts a forward was widely considered as the national leader in developing the one-handed set shot. He later coached high school basketball for 11 years, seven seasons at South Cache High School and four years at Davis High School in Kaysville, and was named Utah's Prep Coach of the Year in 1942. A native of Rexburg, Idaho, Watt served as president of the USU Alumni Association from 1955 -57 and was also a member of Board of Trustees. Utah governor Calvin Rampton also appointed Watts to the Coordination Council of Higher Education.

Watts was inducted into the Hall of Fame posthumously, as he died on July 26, 1976 at the age of 65.
